Community Guidelines

What is welcome on Generation LightMode, what is not, and exactly what happens when a rule is broken. These guidelines are stricter than mainstream social platforms on purpose.

Last updated: 7 September 2026

Why our standard is higher

Generation LightMode is a spiritual community for young people, not a general social network. Where mainstream platforms allow adult content for adults, alcohol and betting adverts, profanity and horoscopes, we do not. Every post, status and comment is screened automatically before it is published, and anything that breaks these guidelines is removed immediately and sent to our moderation team. Our standard is simple: if it would not be welcome in a Sabbath afternoon youth gathering, it is not welcome here.

How enforcement works

Tier 1 — Removed immediately, the account is suspended from posting, and both the member and the moderation team are emailed. Tier 2 — Removed immediately and reviewed by the moderation team; a member who repeats it is suspended. Tier 3 — Hidden from the community while the moderation team reviews it. Borderline content is held for human review. Members who express pain or thoughts of self-harm are never punished — their post stays up and our pastoral team is alerted so someone reaches out. Suspended members can still read, pray and learn, but cannot post, comment or share a status until an administrator reactivates the account.

When the community reports something

Screening is not the only safeguard. When three different members report the same post or status, it is hidden straight away and the account is put on hold, so nothing harmful keeps circulating while a person looks at it. Three things about that rule are deliberate. It counts three different people, so one member cannot silence anyone by reporting the same post repeatedly. The content is hidden, never deleted, so it can be put back in full if the reports were wrong. And it is only ever a review case: a moderator still has to decide, and they can overturn it completely. Reporting is anonymous. The person reported is told which guideline was cited, never who reported them.

1. Sexual content and nudity

No pornography, nudity, sexual acts, sexual solicitation or sexually suggestive posing of any kind — photographed, drawn, animated or AI-generated. Mainstream platforms allow “artistic” nudity, lingerie and swimwear modelling and sexualised dance; Generation LightMode does not. Not allowed: Pornography; exposed genitals, female breasts or buttocks; sexual acts or simulated sex; sexual fluids; sexting or requests for nude images; links, handles or codes pointing to adult sites, escort services or “hookups”. Held for review: Revealing clothing posed to emphasise the body, sexual innuendo, crude sexual jokes, “thirst-trap” style photos, romantic content that becomes physical. Always welcome: Ordinary beach, sports and family photos; breastfeeding; medical and educational material; classical art in an educational context; Scripture and teaching on marriage, purity and sexuality; testimonies of freedom from pornography or sexual sin. Enforcement: Tier 1 — Removed immediately and the account is suspended from posting.

2. Protecting children and young people

Zero tolerance. Any content that sexualises, exploits, grooms, endangers or degrades a minor is removed, the account is suspended, and where the law requires it the case is reported to the relevant authorities. Not allowed: Sexualised images or descriptions of minors (including drawings and AI images); grooming or attempts to move a young person to private chat for sexual purposes; requests for images of minors; sharing a minor’s address, school or phone number to endanger them; “challenges” that endanger children. Held for review: There is no borderline. Anything unclear that involves a minor is removed and escalated to the moderation team. Always welcome: Ordinary photos from youth ministry, Pathfinders, camps and family life; child-safety and anti-abuse awareness content. Enforcement: Tier 1 — Removed immediately and the account is suspended from posting.

3. Violence, gore and extremism

No graphic violence, gore, cruelty or glorification of violence, and no support for terrorism, militias or violent extremist groups. Threatening or inciting violence against anyone is removed even when framed as a joke. Not allowed: Videos or images of killings, torture, mutilation, accidents or dead bodies; animal cruelty; praise of terrorist or extremist groups or their leaders; instructions for weapons or attacks; calls for people to be attacked, beaten or killed; weapons offered for sale. Held for review: Conflict or disaster news without graphic detail; contact sports and martial arts; fictional action scenes; hunting and farming imagery. Always welcome: Scripture and sermons that reference violence; testimonies of surviving violence or persecution; memorials; peace and reconciliation content. Enforcement: Tier 1 — Removed immediately and the account is suspended from posting.

4. Hate, tribalism and discrimination

No attacks, slurs, dehumanising language or exclusion aimed at people because of their ethnicity, tribe, nationality, race, religion, caste, gender, disability, age or refugee status. Tribalism is treated as hate speech here, not as “banter”. Not allowed: Slurs and dehumanising comparisons; claims that a group is inferior, criminal or should be driven out; hate symbols; mocking a group’s suffering or denying genocides; calls to exclude a tribe, nationality or religion from the community. Held for review: Stereotypes, insensitive jokes, generalisations about a group that stop short of contempt. Always welcome: Respectful disagreement about beliefs; discussing discrimination in order to oppose it; testimonies of reconciliation between communities. Enforcement: Tier 1 — Removed immediately and the account is suspended from posting.

5. Harassment, bullying and threats

No threats, intimidation, bullying, sexual harassment, doxxing or coordinated pile-ons. Shaming someone for their body, family, faith or past is bullying and is removed. Not allowed: Threats of violence or death; wishing someone harm; publishing someone’s phone number, address or ID; sexual comments or advances aimed at a person; repeated targeting of one member; organising others to attack a person. Held for review: Heated arguments, name-calling, mockery of a person that is not sexual or threatening. Always welcome: Respectful disagreement; satire that does not target a private individual; reporting someone’s public wrongdoing in good faith. Enforcement: Tier 1 — Removed immediately and the account is suspended from posting.

6. Suicide, self-harm and eating disorders

No content that promotes, glamorises or gives instructions for suicide, self-harm or disordered eating. Members who are struggling are met with care, not removal: a post that expresses pain is kept visible and our pastoral team is alerted. Not allowed: Encouraging someone to end their life; methods or instructions; “challenges” involving self-injury; pro-anorexia or pro-bulimia content; images of self-injury shared to glamorise it. Held for review: A member expressing hopelessness, grief or thoughts of self-harm without promoting it. This is kept visible and flagged for the pastoral team to reach out. Always welcome: Testimonies of recovery; prayer requests; prevention resources and helpline information. Enforcement: Tier 2 — Removed immediately; repeat offenders are suspended.

7. Drugs, alcohol, tobacco and other substances

Generation LightMode upholds a substance-free lifestyle. No sale, sourcing, promotion or glamorising of illegal drugs, alcohol, tobacco, vaping, shisha, khat/miraa or drug paraphernalia. Mainstream platforms allow alcohol and tobacco content for adults; we remove it. Not allowed: Offering drugs or alcohol for sale or delivery; “plug” contacts; celebrating drunkenness or getting high; brand promotion of beer, spirits, cigarettes or vapes; instructions for making or using drugs. Held for review: Neutral mentions of substances; news; recovery stories that include imagery of substances. Always welcome: Testimonies of recovery; health and temperance education; prevention campaigns. Enforcement: Tier 1 — Removed immediately and the account is suspended from posting.

8. Gambling and betting

No promotion of betting, casinos, lotteries, “aviator” or crash games, betting tips, odds, referral codes or gambling apps. Mainstream platforms permit licensed gambling advertising; we do not. Not allowed: Betting tips and “sure odds”; referral codes or links to betting and casino sites; celebrating gambling wins as a lifestyle; promoting gambling apps. Held for review: News about gambling harms; discussion of a gambling problem in a personal story. Always welcome: Testimonies of overcoming gambling addiction; education about its harms. Enforcement: Tier 2 — Removed immediately; repeat offenders are suspended.

9. Scams, fraud and spam

No scams, fraud, phishing, fake giveaways, pyramid or “investment” schemes, fake job offers, malicious links, mass unsolicited promotion or engagement bait. Pretending to raise money for the ministry or a church is removed and the account suspended. Not allowed: “Double your money” and forex/crypto “signals”; requests to send money, airtime or M-Pesa to unlock a prize, job or visa; pyramid and MLM recruitment; phishing links; fake accounts collecting donations; the same promotional message posted repeatedly. Held for review: Repetitive self-promotion; off-topic advertising; unverified fundraising appeals. Always welcome: Church and ministry events; verified fundraising by known accounts; sharing genuine opportunities with clear details. Enforcement: Tier 1 — Removed immediately and the account is suspended from posting.

10. Profanity and crude language

This is a spiritual platform: no profanity, obscene language, crude sexual or toilet humour, or using God’s name as an expletive. Most social platforms allow profanity; here it is removed. Not allowed: Swear words and obscene abbreviations, including censored or “creative” spellings of them; crude jokes about body functions or sex; blasphemous use of God’s or Jesus’ name as a curse. Held for review: Mild slang, playground insults, quoting someone else’s language while telling a story. Always welcome: Honest testimony that references a past lifestyle without repeating the language; Scripture. Enforcement: Tier 2 — Removed immediately; repeat offenders are suspended.

11. Occult practices and divination

No promotion of witchcraft, sorcery, divination, astrology and horoscopes, tarot, spells, curses, charms or attempts to contact the dead. Sharing these “for fun” still promotes them. Not allowed: Horoscopes and star-sign content; advertising traditional healers, spell-casters or charms; instructions for rituals, curses or spells; glorifying occult practice. Held for review: News or academic discussion; fiction that references magic without promoting it. Always welcome: Testimonies of leaving the occult; biblical teaching on the subject; warnings about occult practices. Enforcement: Tier 2 — Removed immediately; repeat offenders are suspended.

12. Illegal and dangerous activity

No promoting, organising or facilitating crime or dangerous acts: human trafficking, smuggling, weapons or counterfeit document sales, hacking or account-theft services, exam cheating, bribery, or dangerous stunts and challenges. Not allowed: Offers of fake certificates, IDs or passports; “hack any account” services; recruiting people for trafficking or smuggling; leaked exam papers; dangerous challenges that risk injury. Held for review: Unclear references to unlawful activity. Always welcome: Reporting crime; awareness and prevention content; legal advice from qualified sources. Enforcement: Tier 1 — Removed immediately and the account is suspended from posting.

13. Dangerous misinformation and manipulated media

No content that could cause real harm by being false: fabricated news, manipulated or AI-generated media presented as real, dangerous health claims, or false statements about the church and its leaders. Not allowed: Telling people to stop medical treatment and rely on prayer alone; fake cures; fabricated quotes attributed to leaders; deepfakes presented as real; hoaxes designed to cause panic. Held for review: Unverified claims; sincere but mistaken sharing; strong opinions stated as fact. Always welcome: Sincere questions and doubts; testimonies of healing that do not tell others to abandon treatment; clearly labelled satire or creative media. Enforcement: Tier 3 — Hidden for review by the moderation team.

14. Impersonation and privacy

Be who you say you are. No impersonating people, churches, ministries or leaders, and no sharing of private information, private conversations or images of people in humiliating situations without consent. Not allowed: Accounts or posts pretending to be a pastor, leader, church or Generation LightMode; screenshots of private chats shared to shame someone; photos or videos of people taken without consent in private or humiliating moments; sharing a member’s personal details. Held for review: Fan or tribute pages that could be mistaken for the real person; parody without a clear label. Always welcome: Public information about public figures shared in good faith; clearly labelled parody or tribute pages. Enforcement: Tier 3 — Hidden for review by the moderation team.

15. Partisan politics and divisive campaigning

Generation LightMode is not a political platform. No partisan campaigning, political attack content, tribal or regional political mobilisation, or content that turns the community into a political battleground. Not allowed: Campaign material for parties or candidates; attacks on political figures; content pitting regions, tribes or nations against each other for political ends; election disinformation. Held for review: Civic information; opinions on public issues stated respectfully. Always welcome: Prayer for leaders and nations; civic education; calls for peace and fair elections; discussing justice from a biblical perspective. Enforcement: Tier 3 — Hidden for review by the moderation team.

16. Contempt for the sacred

Sincere questions, doubts and disagreement are always welcome. Content that ridicules God, Scripture, prayer, baptism, the Sabbath or other believers with contempt, or that uses the platform to attack the church, is not. Not allowed: Mocking Scripture, prayer or worship for laughs; contemptuous attacks on the church, its beliefs or other faiths; content created to provoke believers. Held for review: Sharp criticism of church practice; edgy humour about church life; passionate doctrinal argument. Always welcome: Honest questions and doubts; testimonies; respectful debate; constructive criticism offered in love. Enforcement: Tier 3 — Hidden for review by the moderation team.

Mistakes and appeals

Automatic screening can be wrong, and so can a group of members. Every decision can be challenged. Open Settings, then Account Status. It shows exactly what was removed or hidden, which guideline was cited, and gives you an "Ask for a review" button on each item and on the account itself. A person reads every request and replies there. You have 30 days from a decision to ask. If a review goes your way, your content comes back and your account is reactivated. You can also email info@generationlightmode.org from your account address if you would rather write to us directly.

Reporting

If you see something that breaks these guidelines, use Report on the post or comment. Reports go straight to the moderation team, and reporting is always anonymous to the person reported.
